Fund for victims of the floods in Todmorden

A FIGHTING fund to help businesses recover from the June floods will be open to shops and firms in Todmorden.

The Recovery Investment for a Stronger Economy (RISE) Fund, operated by Calderdale Council, is inviting applications from water-damaged outfits.
Several premises across the Upper Calder Valley, including Todmorden and Walsden, were severely hit by the heavy downpours.

And small to medium-sized ventures which lost stock or suffered damage are being urged to come forward.

Coun Janet Battye, deputy council leader and Todmorden councillor, said: “I know that there are many businesses out there which need a helping hand and we feel that it is up to the council to take a lead.

“These grants could make all the difference to businesses which are doing their best to bounce back.”

Firms now wanting to apply for RISE funding should contact the council’s Luke Doran on 01422 392156.

What's the point

Isn't that what insurance is for.
So I pay contents insurance and then my tax goes to fund a business that hasn't taken out adequate insurance pathetic.

Is there a fund for the general public in the area ?
anywhere else in the world we would be asked to dig deep in our pockets

The insurance companies should be made to pay out any claims made. They are quick at taking your money, knowing full well that Todmorden is a high risk flood area. They are nothing but crooks.

An ongoing dispute between the government and the insurance company's
who are refusing to pay, at the governments reluctance to tackle flood defences. Soon insurance contents will not include flood related damage and should see insurance premiums lowered.
