THE arrival of the Tour de France in Calderdale is set to be the central theme of this year’s Todmorden Carnival.

Later this summer the route of the famous bike race will skirt around the edge of town, at Cragg Vale, and tourism chiefs have been taking advantage of a groundswell of interest in cycling.

Just a fortnight ago there was a huge parade, as part of the ‘Tour de Tod’ activities programme.

And on Saturday, May 24, the town’s annual carnival will embrace ‘Sur Votre Bicyclette’ (On Your Bike) as the backdrop for their Centre Vale Park spectacular.

Live music, a tug of war and their own parade, starring carnival queen Alison Donnelly, and her princesses Katie Donnelly and Sameeha Naseer, will also feature.

Stewards are being sought and those interested can contact 077786 14128 or e-mail todmordencarnival@live.co.uk. Admission is £1 with a pre-paid ticket.
