RECYCLERS and those with rubbish to discard in Todmorden are being reminded that a major centre is to close soon.

Upgrades to Eastwood, the town’s main household recycling centre, will begin on Wednesday, August 28, and will take five months to complete.

Calderdale Council has arranged for an extra garden waste collection to take place in Todmorden on alternate Saturdays from September and regular community clean-up days have been arranged in a bid to offset the effects of the closure.

Coun Barry Collins, environment cabinet member, said: “The Eastwood Centre is very well used and we know that residents are keen to continue to recycle.

“When Calderdale’s other waste centres were similarly refurbished, local people were encouraged to use other facilities elsewhere in the borough.

“However, as Eastwood is more remote, the Council has put in place alternative arrangements to help residents continue to dispose of their household waste until it reopens.”
