CONTRACTORS who installed a flood alleviation system around Todmorden have won a national award for their work on the scheme.

VolkerStevin has been announced as a winner of the National Gold Award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

The annual awards, run by the Scheme, recognise the highest levels of consideration and care shown by construction sites throughout the UK towards their local neighbourhood, the general public, site staff and the environment.

Only 77 UK sites achieved the gold standard this year from more than 7,000 entered.

The award was presented by Barry Clarke, President of the Institute of Civil Engineers to Donald Murray of VolkerStevin at a ceremony held at the Plaisterers Hall in London.
