A NEW enterprise zone which could bring in 1,000 new jobs to Lancashire looks set to be built on green-belt land.
Plans have been submitted to the Government for two zones based around BAE Systems’ Samlesbury and Warton sites to boost economic development.
South Ribble Council cabinet members have backed in principle plans to push back a green-belt boundary at the Samlesbury site.
Senior planning officers believe the economic benefits of the scheme outweigh the protected land principles.
The first phase would release 16 hectares of non-green belt to the east of the site for development and the second phase would see former runway areas developed and the creation of an independent access from the A677.
Plans to change the green belt boundary in the local development framework (LDF) will undergo public consultation, lasting until January 13.
