POLICE are urging residents to mark their property and lock up premises after a spate of shed break-ins.

Three outhouses, all on Acre Street, Whitworth, were raided between February 29 and March 1.

Forty cans of lager, a petrol generator and a bag of clothes were stolen from one property during the day on February 29, while a set of Ben Sayers golf clubs worth £250 were stolen from another between 8pm on February 29 and 8am on March 1.

Another property was searched but nothing was stolen.

Crime prevention officer PC Phil Buck, said: "If you are erecting a shed you should try to make sure it is near the rear windows of your property.

"Ensure your shed is locked up with a suitable closed hasp and that windows are covered to avoid temptation to thieves.

"Mark your property with your postcode and house number. This can be easily done using a paintbrush and old paint. This makes it difficult for thieves to sell your property on.

"Do not give thieves a helping hand - crime prevention is easy."
