A MAN who attacked his partner of eight years in a row over their children was given a community sentence.
Burnley magistrates heard how Gary Andrew Barry, 38, got abusive, struck a door and a cupboard and then punched out at and headbutted Dawn Bradley, catching her with glancing blows.
Mrs Bradley, who had just been to a funeral, was left scared and upset and felt her partner could have seriously injured her had the blows connected.
Barry, of Fernisle Close, Whitworth, admitted damage and assault by beating, last November 19.
He was given 12 months supervision, 50 hours unpaid work and must pay £100 costs.
Elizabeth Reed, prosecuting, told the court Mrs Bradley would say she and the defendant bickered like any couple, but he had not been physically abusive to her.
Ben Leech, defending, said there had been no previous reports of domestic violence in the relationship and the incident was isolated.
He said the defendant and Mrs Bradley were now back living together.
