A WATCHDOG has praised staff at a Whitworth care home and found it was meeting all the essential standards during a recent inspection.

The Care Quality Commission said of Healey House in Oakenshaw Avenue: “There was clear sensitive communications between the staff and people using the service, with the staff taking time to listen and wait for responses during conversations.

“Throughout the inspection we saw staff were regularly interacting with people who lived at the home, helping them to go out to appointments and undertake various other personal tasks.

“Staff were able to demonstrate how well they knew people’s needs and ensured people were supported in line with their assessed needs and preferences.

“We checked how the service was administering medication and found this was done safely. There were enough staff with the right skills at the service to meet people's needs.

“We observed staff treat people with affection, warmth and kindness. Staff were patient and their work centred on the people who lived at the home.

“People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were being maintained.”
