ALMOST 300 pensioners from the Valley were treated to musical performances and a free supper at the Riverside in Whitworth.
The event, organised by coun Jimmy Eaton, offered a free glass of sherry and a meal from the caterers of the Rose n Bowl in Stacksteads to any pensioners over the age of 60 that attended.
There was also a tombola where people were free to pick out clothes and jewellery which had been donated.
There were performances by the Whitworth and Healey Junior Brass Band, dancers from Dansworks, and Peter Holden, who was singing classic songs from the 60s and 70s.
Pensioners were asked to pay £1 for a ticket to the event, which was refundable on the door.
Coun Eaton said: “It was very successful. It’s a great thing for the pensioners and I’m glad to see so many turn up for it. I’d like to thank the manager at the Riverside, the caterers, and my wife for helping out making brews and doing the washing up.”
