VANDALS have committed a vehicle-wrecking spree in Waterfoot.

Windows are being smashed, van doors forced and badges and light fittings stolen around the Peers Clough Road and Graver Weir areas.

There have been five reported incidents in 16 days, typically from Thursday evening to Sunday morning.

Police carried out inquiries and were told by one resident that the offenders could be as young as 11-14 years old.

In the most recent case on March 2, a sharp-bladed tool was used to force the door on a Peugeot van, but the offenders were unsuccessful.

Police are carrying out high-visibilty patrols as well as having plain-clothed officers patrolling the trouble hotspots.

PCSO Nick Stratton, CBM for Waterfoot, said: "Three youths have been sighted in the area as late as midnight.

"There appears to be others vehicular crimes not being reported.

"I would appeal witnesses to pass any information to us - especially anyone who has any knowledge of the three males mentioned earlier.

"Parents must know where their children are at that time of night."

PC Mick Woods added: "If residents only have third party insurance they will not be covered for damage to their vehicles.

"This is mindless damage that has severe financial implications for victims.

"There may be a number of damages not reported to police and I would urge those owners to come forward.

"We suspect it is youths causing this damage but they should know we will not tolerated this behaviour any longer."

If you can help call PC Mick Woods on 01706 237633 or Crimestoppers, anony-mously on 0800 555 111.
