A REHABILITATION centre for people with drug and alcohol problems celebrated its official opening by inviting residents to join them for a garden party.

Coun Amanda Robertson, Mayor of Rossendale, cut the ribbon of the Recovery House in Waterfoot.

The ceremony was to mark the success of the project that launched last autumn, which aims to provide stable and secure housing to recovering addicts.

Since opening its doors, the centre has supported scores of vulnerable adults in overcoming their addictions and reintegrating into the community.

The project is a part of the Inspire partnership, which provides therapy, solutions and support for people with drug and alcohol issues in the area.

Following successful treatment, the residents continue to benefit from a residential setting by ‘giving back’ to the community and undertaking voluntary work in charity shops and within Inspire.

A spokeswoman for the centre said: “We had glorious weather, a strong community support and a fantastic uplifting atmosphere.

“Residents turned their hands to preparing the days events offering free food and beverages, entertainment. The barbecue can only be described as excellent, as it was hand prepared and cooked by a resident who is also a trained chef.

“Residents shared their experiences with those who attended, including the Mayor and local police, which highlighted the need for this project and the transformation it has had on their lives.”

Following the success of the day, The Recovery House will be hoping to open our doors to the community again in the future.
