ONE of East Lancashire's largest employers has held the grand opening of two new landmark warehouse facilities.

Kitchen, bedroom and bathroom manufacturer JJO has spent £1.5million developing the storage unit on Railway Street, Stacksteads.

Culture Minister, Andy Burnham was the guest of honour at the opening yesterday.

JJO produces over 700 kitchens, bedrooms and now bathrooms a week and supplies them to independent high street furniture stores throughout the UK and into Europe.

The two new warehouses take JJO's combined floorspace in Rossendale to more than one million square feet. This development is the latest step in a major £7million investment programme over the last four years.

JJO Managing Director, Stephen Greenhalgh said: "We are delighted that the minister agreed to take time out of his schedule to mark the opening."

Gotta agree :) 1.5 million on 2 shiny new warehouses and then employ a half-wit to install the security lights - lol, the 1 lighting up blackwood road was original installed facing upward. Ahh sussed it, they must think burglars are gonna absail down from blackwood road hence there's no need to point the lights at the ground!

I agree that the company has certain social responsibilities and imagine that many options will have been considered prior to their recent erection (!). Clearly the company has been successful and I guess to ensure their position expansion has been necessary. Many of the objections raised, dog dirt, broken glass and drivers sleeping at the side of the road can't really be laid at the door of JJO! Perhaps the lighting won't be as bad for the next 6mths lol. It seems to me The positives far outweigh the negative.

local lass and big jack - dont think anyone has said they DONT want JJO in the valley- just some consideration for their neighbours wouldnt go a miss. is that too much to ask - or do we let all the big players get their own way in Rossendale? Granted - the fact the new building is a subtle colour of green (unlike the ASDA monster in Rawtenstall) - it seems a shame that they ruin it with the lighting arrangement.

I agree Local Lass.
Stop moaning, minnies! Employers like JJO should be supported by the community.

There really is no pleasing some people!
Here is a local company employing over 400 people from Bacup & Stacksteads, putting their money where their mouth is and all you can do is moan......
If JJO up-sticks and left the area, you may as well put the shutters up in Stacksteads and Bacup as it would be turned into a ghost town.

I aggree - they are like that to assist the cctv cameras I suspect - once again no consideration to the people who live near these monstrosities. I know they've got to go somewhere and provide local jobs but some sympathy for the surroundings wouldn't go a miss. on a lighter note it does illuminate the broken glass and dog turd up blackwood very nicely

JJO should have taken the culture minister down Farholme lane and shown him how they block all the trafic, allow drivers from abroad to sleep in their cabs infront of their building all weekend. Show him the amount of frustration caused to locals when these wagons try to get back onto the main rd (and going up a one way street in the wrong direction)
Pity they didnt take him he would have seen some culture
