WORK on the £300,000 Adrenaline Gateway mountain bike course raced into action this week.
And the six-mile trials course at Lee Quarry, near Stacksteads, could open as early as May.
Trials riding involves very slow, controlled riding and is considered a specialist strand of mountain biking - and world class local rider Alistair Clarkson has been involved in designing the circuit.
Gary Hood, chief executive of the Rossendale Trust, praised the area's fantastic countryside and moorland, saying it was the reason there are so many great cyclists in the area.
He added: "Being near the M62, we have six million people within one and a half hours drive time to the area."
