POLICE have stepped up patrols in Stacksteads after residents compl-ained about youths flashing' and causing anti-social behaviour.

And officers have vowed to act swiftly' against the youths if they break the law after issuing two fixed penalty notices to teenagers.

Police said they had received a number of complaints from residents claiming a gang of boys aged between 10 and 15 had exposed themselves, hurled eggs at people's homes and caused damage to a fence in Booth Road.

Other allegations have centred around stones and balls being thrown at cars travelling the road at the start of last week.

High visibility patrols were stepped up after police met and discussed residents' concerns.

Two teenagers have been issued with £40 fixed penalty notices for the damage to the fence, said PC Alex Downham.

He said the parents of the youths concerned have been contacted, and no incidents had been reported in the past week.

PC Downham, who has been the community beat manager for Stacksteads for four years, said: "We have issued two fixed penalty notices to the two youths and their parents have also been contacted.

"It was well received and our efforts have been successful so far.

"We have been in touch with the residents and they have confirmed there have been no further incidents.

Warning the youths, he added: "If you commit a criminal offence it will swiftly dealt with.

"Youth nuisance is one of the biggest problems in our area but they need to respect other people's property. Any residents who have problems can contact me on 07903 979019"

Stacksteads councillor Christine Lamb was not surprised over the incidents, saying: "I am not shocked to hear about this because it has happened before.

"It is happening every-where but the police seem to have nipped it in the bud."

I live around the cutler cresent area of stacksteads and its over run with idiots like these up and down the valley, down that end they seem to hang around the bus stop and booth rd,they know the law is on their side and they play on that without a doubt.Overall you should try sticking to the law but at times it makes it a bit hard when you get no support off the police at all,if you live in a "rough"area they tar you all with the same brush and its like your having to prove to the coppers that you didnt do or say anything first for them to be acting like that.I will be honest ive tried many a time to speak to them right and reason with them but they dont listen to a word so the ones old enough for a back hander get told where to go and if it comes down to me getting a grip of them then and there thats what i do.

We complained a few times to the police about these 'no hoper's' and to be honest, we had no results until I emailed Janet Anderson about it and she too spoke to the police, and voila! SO far the kids are nowhere to be seen. People of Stacksteads, we really need to stick together and not let these gangs kids knacker our fences, throw eggs/stones etc. They need something constructive to do, we need a youth centre, is there one??? I think they are fed up because there's nothing to do. What can we do?? Has anyone got any positive ideas?

well said AD
As an MP what has she done nothing, she cant even get the post code changed so that all of the people she represents can have the same insurance costs as the rest of Rossendale.
The only thing so is Good at is claiming expenses

Tony Blair promised to stop youth nuisance in 1996 before he was elected. Nothing has happened. Christine Lamb may not be surprised but then does she really care because these kids live on estates like Pennine and Cutler Crescent and their parents are dole addicts and junkies. Caroline Flint was right: no job, no house. But Gordon Brown will go on mouthing the same platitudes. I've had eggs and breaks thrown at my house too and had the same abuse. No fines, no results.
I will not be voting for our useless MP next time.

I'm sure that this is the same gang who damaged our fence a few weeks. I also noticed a wrecked fence near Church Street - but I thought this was down to the wind. These scumbags should be named and shamed and their parents fined !
