PUPILS celebrated their best-ever GCSE results at Fearns Community Sports College with 64 per cent achieving five or more A*-C grades.
Headteacher of the Stacksteads school Nigel Dawson said: “Last year our statistics showed a record 60 per cent of pupils gaining five or more A* to C so I am delighted that we have now pushed that figure even higher up to 64 per cent.
“I am equally pleased that 75 per cent of our Year 10s who took their maths GCSEs a year early achieved A* to C results.
"This gives them a secure start to their Year 11. We are looking to introduce early English GCSEs from November.
“These are the highest results Fearns has ever had.
"It has been a pleasure to work with the pupils over the past five years, four as their teacher and one as head and I, along with all the teachers and staff at Fearns, wish them every success in their chosen future path.”
Harry Lord let out a ‘Yes’ when he opened the envelope and discovered he had achieved A grades in the three subjects he had picked for A level at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School Sixth Form – Biology, Chemistry and Religious Studies.
These grades were enhanced by a further four Bs and 2 Cs.
“I want to be a doctor and am hoping to go to medical school after A-levels,” he said.
“I am really pleased with my results.”
Also celebrating was wannabe computer games designer Demi Beresford who will be starting on her chosen career path by studying at Accrington and Rossendale College.
“I am really happy with my grades, I got a lot of things I didn’t expect,” she said.
Her As were in Art and Graphics and English while she also got five Bs, a C and BTEC Sport.
Demi added: “I do a lot of art and also some 3D work and am hoping to present my ideas to a games company.”
Teaching is in the sights of high achieving Dale Clifton who got an A* for his Maths and an A in Physics along with a further, 3Bs and a C.
After A-Levels at BRGS and university he hopes to train to be a PE or Maths teacher.
Joining Harry and Dale at BRGS will be Matt Harding who got an A* in Biology, four As in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Resistant Materials, 3 Bs, a C and a BTEC in Sport.
He said: “Biology was a subject that I really enjoyed. I am going on to do A levels but after that I have no idea what I want to do.”
Headteacher Nigel Dawson said he was delighted with the achievements of all the Year 11 students and wished them every success on their future journeys.
“This is my first year as head and I am delighted with how far our students have come,” he said.
“It is also the first year we have had Year 10s taking Maths GCSE early and this was a huge success with 75 per cent of those taking the exam achieving an A* to C grade.
"This is something we will be introducing for English GCSE from November.”
