A MUSICIAN who has spent 30 years completing a unique photographic project has been asked to exhibit his work at an international gallery.
Violinist Tom Bangbala has travelled the world capturing thousands of images of classical musicians as part of his “Orchestral Life” works.
Now the Peter Scott gallery at Lancaster University has chosen the Stacksteads photographer’s impressive portfolio for a major exhibition which will go on show for a month.
Tom said: “My images of musicians are viewed not from the usual aspect of performing, which is how the public always see classical performers, but from within what is generally a closed world to the outsider, that of the musician preparing and rehearsing for a performance.
“I have been working on this ongoing project for 30 years and it consists of an archive of over 20,000 images documenting the every day life of hard working classical musicians.
“The images show the joys, the heartache, and often the tedium of preparing music for performance.”
Bosses at the gallery said they were eager to display the Rossendale man’s work describing it as “revealing and intimate photographic portraits of musicians captured in the between times of performance.”
The Peter Scott gallery has hosted works by major European artists including Julius Bissier, Eduardo Chillida, Andre Derain, Max Ernst and Henri Matisse.
The exhibition will run until December 4.
