Rossendale school judged outstanding

A ROSSENDALE primary school is celebrating after it was judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors for the second time in three years.

Holy Trinity CE Primary School, Stacksteads, has been commended for high quality teaching and exemplary lead-ership.

Lead inspector Gordon Alston, who visited the school in June, also praised members of staff for applying the ‘personal touch’.

Headteacher John Aspin, said he was delighted with the result, which he put down to a mixture of ‘hard work and talent’.

The school received the top accolade of being rated as outstanding in all six categories.

In his report, Mr Alston said: “The quality of teaching is, overall, outstanding. Strengths lie in the great care and attention teachers give in the preparation of lessons ensuring they are interesting, challenging and meaningful for all pupils.

“Teachers’ very caring rela-tionships with pupils generate exceptionally positive attitudes to learning.”

Staff were given further praise for doing their utmost to make the school environment enjoy-able for the children.

Mr Alston said a shared philosophy that every child really does matter was the ‘glittering thread’ that runs throughout the school.

John Aspin, who has been headteacher at the school since 1996, hailed the result.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted with the report.

“We got one in 2006 and to do it again is a remarkable achievement.

“I put it down to the hard work and talent of everyone who works at the school, including teachers, teaching assistants, administrative staff.

“We all work together for the good of the children.

“Every child does matter to us and they are at the forefront of everything we do.

“The children are very proud of their achievements and credit to them because they respond well to the care and attention.”
