STAFF and pupils at a Stacksteads school embraced World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite literary characters and penning their own short stories.

An inter-form competition was held for Key Stage 3 pupils at Fearns Community Sports College.

Literacy co-ordinator Rebecca Roach said: “Each form had a 100 word short story which they had to continue.

“It started in the Year 7 form then was added to in Year 8 and finally completed by Year 9s.

“The best story was read out in whole school assembly by Nigel Dawson, our headteacher.

“We have been trying to celebrate writing stories as much as reading them.”

On the day, Miss Roach also arranged for all staff to have a Where’s Wally costume, although hers arrived late so she had to spend the morning as Snow White.

Miss Roach added: “I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff for being such good sports.

“And to the children for their creativity and enthusiasm.”
