STACKSTEADS Post Office is set to relocate – just 250 metres from its current home.

The business will re-open at Premier’s School Street Mini-Market, 404 Newchurch Road, on March 10, from 1pm.

The current premises, at 330 Newchurch Road, managed by Coun Jackie Oakes, will close at 12.30pm on March 8.

The relocation will also see the post office open from 5.30am to 10.30pm seven days a week.

The post office, now independent of Royal Mail, said the changes were ‘part of a major modernisation programme’ across its network.

Regional network manager for central England, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Bacup, and we are confident that this new modern post office will meet the needs of the local community, and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the post office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the post office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Customers are advised to use Waterfoot Post Office, at 29a Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, in the short period between the closure of the current site and the opening of the new one.
