Rock show tribute to Sophie
SADDENED: Dear Superstar will perform a tribute show for Sophie
SADDENED: Dear Superstar will perform a tribute show for Sophie

AN ACCLAIMED rock band have decided to end their UK tour with a tribute concert to Sophie Lancaster.

Dear Superstar are hoping to raise cash towards the SOPHIE fund, which was set up after the 20-year-old was brutally murdered in a Bacup park necause of the way she dressed.

It has been a few years since the band - Micky Satiar, Amadeus Fontaine and Adam Smethurst, all of Rawtenstall, Benj Ashmead, from Haslingden, and Stew Milton, of Bury - last played in Rossendale.

For the past 12 months they have been recording their second album and embarking on a series of UK and European tours.

But the band felt so moved by Sophie's death that they decided to end their latest UK tour in the borough - and use the gig to raise money for the Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere fund.

Lead singer Micky, from Horncliffe Close, Rawtenstall, said: "We found out about Sophie's death while we were touring Finland.

"We felt what had happened was so horrendous and despicable that we said at the time we had to do something to raise awareness and hopefully educate a few people out there. We are all from the Valley and we felt that a homecoming show at the end of our first tour of 2008 would be perfect to dedicate to Sophie and to raise money for the SOPHIE fund and we are proud to be doing so."

Last year their debut album, Confessions of a Twisted Mind, was released to critical acclaim from popular magazines Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Classic Rock.

In January they recorded their new album Heartless with Romesh Dodangoda, who produced Lost Prophets, Funeral for a Friend and Manic Street Preachers.

The first single from the album is Live. Love. Lie, which features guest vocals from Bullet For My Valentine.

The Dear Superstar concert takes place on Saturday, April 26, at Bacup Football Club.

Tickets are £3 on the door.
