A STRETCH of the Haslingden bypass was closed this morning after an accident in which the atrocious weather played a part.
East Lancashire, along with much of the UK, has been battered by storm force winds for the second time in three days with gusts of up to 80mph causing traffic disruption in many parts.
On the southbound Haslingden bypass, near Rising Bridge at the Woolpack roundabout, fire crews were forced to cut a man from his car after it clipped a HGV and spun in to an embankment.
Crew manager Alex Fletcher, of Hyndburn station, said a mixture of strong winds and heavy rain had played a major part in causing the accident.
The male driver sustained minor injuries in the smash.
The southbound side of the carriageway was shut following the smash at 6.30am and remains closed.
