POLICE are warning delivery drivers to be vigilant when stopping outside homes or businesses in East Lancashire.

A Mercedes Sprinter Van was broken into after it stopped at Rising Bridge Service Station between 11.20am and 11.30am on Monday.

The thief used a screwdriver to break the lock then stole a Tom Tom sat nav system worth £150 and its cradle which were hidden under the seat.

Also taken was a blue Adidas wallet containing £50.

PC Phil Buck of Rawtenstall police said said: "We have had a number of incidents where offenders have been active in car parks.

"Offenders know that delivery vans are likely to have a satellite navigation system, mobile phones, keys, packages and cash on view.

"I would ask drivers to be vigilant and take small items with them if possible or put them in the rear of the vehicle, out of sight."
