A NEW exhibition is on display at Rossendale Museum.

A Reflective Journey comprises a series of paintings by Elizabeth Crabtree, based on her childhood memories in India during 1950s.

Elizabeth, who moved to Rawtenstall, was born in Calcutta in 1949 and was educated in a Catholic school by Loreto nuns.

Her body of work began in the final year of her fine art degree in 2007.

She said: "I used various sources to evoke childhood memories including photographs, films and books.

"I re-read old letters from India and embedded original scraps of these into the canvas to help me to recapture images from the past.

"I worked primarily on stretched canvas and began most of the work in acrylic paint and used oil paint to finish most of them.

" I found it challenging but I hope people will find my work thought-provoking and stimulating."

The exhibition runs from May 7 until June 29.

Elizabeth is also running workshops for families from 1.30pm-3.30pm on May 27. Entry for adults is free and children cost £1.50.
