Tory pledge to make life better in Rossendale

CONSERVATIVES have vowed to take the borough forward after winning three seats in the local elections.

Council leader Tony Swain said his main focuses would be improv-ing Rawtenstall town cen-tre, the health hub, and getting on with plans for a new bus depot.

He said: "Now people can look forward to two years of continued improvem-ents. People are not totally happy in Rossendale and making improvements to areas like Rawtenstall town centre will be first on the list.

"We can take our eyes off everything else for the moment.

"I would like to say a big thank you to the people of Rossendale who have decided this group of councillors is the way forward."

Plans for a £45m development of Rawten-stall town centre have been dogged by delays.

Meanwhile, East Lancs PCT bosses are creating a new £10m health hub on the site of the former JF Tomlinson slipper factory, off Bacup Road, near to Ilex Mill.

It will incorporate many of the services which used to be offered at Rossendale General Hospital, and eventually house around 150 staff.

Under discussion for the site is an urgent care centre, similar to those at Burnley General and Royal Blackburn Hospitals.

A midwife-led birthing unit, where babies not requiring consultant care can be born, is also planned. Other services, including X-ray, hospice and palliative care, outpatient clinics, minor surgery, a GP practice and mental health facilities are also being discussed.

Could somebody also let Terry Swain know that Rossendale streches all the way up to Bacup and Haslingden and is not just all contained in a 1 mile radius from the Town Hall

Bacup,This council think about bacup, Not a cat in hells chance. What we need in bacup is a business man with a massive wad of cash and doesn;t mind buying a couple of crates of whiskey sweeteners for the powers that be.nudge nudge, wink wink ,say no more. No different than government itself

Can the Telegraph and other media please note that Rossendale Tories only won two seats? One of their 'gains' was from their own ex leader Duncan Ruddick who didn't stand at this election, having changed to Independent a couple of months ago, despite retaining the Conservative title in his County Council seat. As he was originally elected as a Conservative this means that the Tories 'held' his seat rather than 'gained' it!

Bacup and Haslingden has recenty had SRB money spent, so its time Rawtenstall has some investment...and this the Valley Centre is private not public money...and the town hall is not in Rawtenstall...most of the staff now work at Futures Park...in BACUP

I cant really understand what all the debate is about, we are talking fish pond politics..I have lived in rossendale all my life and no matter which political group takes control of the council..life still goes on, the streets dont become paved with gold overnight! as for rawtenstall getting a larger slice of the investment pie! well rightly so..it is after all the gateway to rossendale via the M66 so first appearances are important!

No rocky lad half of them work at the one stop shop, the town hall annex and there the ones who get all the flack, go in there any day and see. I was appalled at how aggressively some people talk to these helpful women, the brave front line of the council who after all are the only ones most people have contact with nowadays seeing as all the directors who make all the decisions (most of them stupid) are in their posh ivory tower at futures, bacup which is closed to univited public, haslingden and whitworth and waterfoot have lost their neighbourhood offices and most of the council tax office is in coventry. The housing stock lies with greenvale now, how ironic when more green valley disapears every day. Thats how you are getting your concrete jungle rawtenstall, at other peoples expense but have you seen the plans for the new shopping centre? Its just a newer version of the existing monstrosity. And New Hall Hey is ruined and Asda looks like an old tin warehours. Your welcome to your superstore minicity rawtenstall, rawtenstall is ruined, but at least invest in the rest of the valley to retain some of its authenticity.
