AN East Lancashire couple were married in a stunnning Vatican City ceremony.

Andrew Lindsay, who lived in Bury Road, Haslingden wed his fiance Amelia Harris in the principality, and was due to have an audience with Pope Benedict XVI last night.

The couple are both sports reporters for the BBC, and will now embark on a honeymoon tour of Italy.

Speaking after the wedding Amelia, 32, said: “Nothing went wrong, we had the most perfect day imaginable and we are now an ecstatically happy Mr and Mrs Lindsay!”

Andrew, 34, a former student at All Saints Catholic High School in Rawtenstall and Blackburn College, proposed to Amelia, from Leicester, on St Valentine’s Day last year.

The ceremony, at the Church of Saint Anne, also saw Amelia baptised and confirmed in front of almost 70 friends and family, before a reception was held at Villa Grazioli in Fras-cati, which is 12 miles from Rome.

The couple will live in Hale, Cheshire, and were meeting the Pope to have their wedding rings blessed.

After they return from their honeymoon it will be straight back to work.

They will be off to London to help with the BBC’s coverage of this summer’s Olympic Games.
