Snowy and icy conditions on East Lancashire's roads

SNOWY and icy weather conditions have caused treacherous driving conditions across East Lancashire today.

A car overturned on the A56 Haslingden bypass this morning leading to long delays.

Meanwhile traffic was diverted near Whalley because of another accident.

A VW Caddy, a Ford Fiesta and a Peugeot were involved in a minor road accident in Accrington Road near to the junction of the A59.

All three motorists were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment following the crash at 8.57am.

Ice and snow also led to the closure of Lammack Road and Shear Brow, Blackburn, and Burnley Road at Yorkshire Street between Bacup and Todmorden.

All motorists are being advised to take extra care.

The weather hasn't been nearly as bad as it was last year, yet we are seeing all of these accidents and road closures. Whats going on?

I think it was only certain areas. I didn't realise until my son posted on Facebook to say his bus driver was throwing snowballs.

I blame all this unrest in the weather on the Europeans.I think they are using all the good weather up before we get a say on it..

Set off earlier, don't drive like a dick.

2 ways to avoid accidents on wintery roads. There are other ones but those 2 cover most problems.

It takes a certain set of circumstances to create the sort of black ice causing all of these accidents. The combination of sleet and rain with the cold temperatures makes it very hard to make the roads safe. Gritting isn't necessarily going to prevent it

but not gritting at all between 8pm and 8am wont prevent it either.

I blame Jack Frost...
Every year, without fail, his evil spiricules reach out and grasp the unsuspecting moron, in a bone-chilling grip, causing them to forget that ice is slippy.
He should suffer a death of his own making, on an icicle.

And while on the subject of Winter...
What is our Gov't doing about these itererant snowmen?
Coming over here, taking all our coal and carrots.. There should be a law against it.
Again, the UK Border Agency is failing in it's duty to prevent these people getting in..
You get one in your street and before you know it, they are everywhere. Something needs to be done about it.

And why do they all come here, taking up out front gardens, like they own the place..
Why don't they go and do a proper job, somewhere else?

And when they leave, they leave a lot of mess, for someone else to clean up.

In 1976, the Gov't made Dennis Howell in charge of the drought, he put a stop to that. Can we not give Steve Kean the job of ridding us of this annual menace?
