A ROSSENDALE student will spend a week at one of the most prestigious theatres in the country after being recommended for an internship with a difference.
Danny Higgins, 16, was nominated by his teachers at Alder Grange Sixth Form for a once in a life time chance at the famed Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
The ‘Behind the Scenes Work Week’ at the Royal Exchange is seven days of backstage workshops and experience which could be a jumping off point for Danny’s dream career.
After his teacher’s recommendation, Danny created a three-minute video explaining why his practices so far in theatre and his passion for the industry makes him a perfect fit for the exclusive internship scheme.
Performing Arts teacher at Alder Grange, Katy Procter, put Danny forward for this opportunity in support of his ambitions as he has continuously involved himself in a range of performances in both back and centre stage roles at the school.
Year 12 student Danny started studying BTEC Performing Arts, Creative Media and Music at ag6 in September and has already managed to impress his peers and teachers with his dedication and talent.
Miss Procter said: “Whenever Danny has been involved in shows and whole school events he has been professional and supportive.
"Taking creative subjects has helped him prepare for this experience and I believe it will give him much needed skills to develop a career in the industry.”
The Royal Exchange Theatre Work Week involves a week of observing, learning from and working with the professionals from behind the scenes.
It will include workshops led by staff across the theatre in areas such as sound, lighting, props, wardrobe, technical theatre and Danny will also have the chance to put this into practice at a live performance.
Danny said: “I am really grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait for it start.
"February can’t come quick enough.
"Miss Procter was really keen for me to get this internship, the school are so supportive and encouraging of my career in performing arts.”
