A RAMSBOTTOM business is getting in a lather to raise money for Bury Hospice.

The Laundry Room, in Bolton Road West, has pledged to give five per cent of the money received for all dry cleaning and washing duvets to the charity.

Owner, Jane Whitehouse-Billington, will take the money from her profits, rather than raising the price for customers.

She said: “With the recession, everyone is reluctant to put their hands in their pockets for charity because they’re skint. We decided that rather than ask people for donations to our collection box, we would give this money to the hospice.

“We started doing this three weeks ago and have had a great response so far. We are finding that people are telling us their stories about the hospice and how cancer has affected them.”

Jane and her daughter, 23-year-old Samantha Billington, have previously raised money for charity by doing Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life.

They started fundraising after the death of Jane’s grandmother, Betty Hughes, who died at the hospice three years ago after battling stomach cancer.

Jane’s best friend, Debra Foy, is currently in remission from breast cancer.

Jane, who opened The Laundry Room six years ago, said: “My nanna died at the hospice and the staff were absolutely fantastic. They were such wonderful people.

“The new hospice will be brilliant and I’m really pleased that I can help to raise money in this way. Every bit of money will help the hospice.”
