FOUR fire engines were called out to a fire in the basement of a salon.

Crews from Burnley, Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom attended the incident below a salon in Burnley Road, Rawtenstall, at 10.30am this morning.

When crews arrived they found that a consumer unit had set alight and the fire was spreading to other areas of the basement.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose real and dry powder extinguisher to put the fire out. Some floorboards from the salon had to be cut out after being damaged.

Nobody was injured and the fire is not being treated as being of suspicious origin.

Firefighters were at the scene for around 90 minutes.

An engineer from Electricity North West also attended the scene.

A fire service spokesman said: “Four fire engines from Burnley, Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom attended a building fire in Burnley Road, Rawtenstall at 10.30am.

“Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel, one extinguisher and ventilation unit to extinguish the fire involving a consumer unit. No injuries were reported.”
