ALIENS and dinosaurs invaded an East Lancashire railway station as part of a family fun weekend.

Hundreds of people turned up at Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom Railway Stations for the Sci-Fi on the Sidings event.

Organisers East Lancashire Railway described the two-day sun soaked event as a huge success and thanked all those who attended.

As part of the weekend residents young and old were given the opportunity to ride a steam train with some of their favourite sci-fi characters from the past.

Themes for the event included Alien versus Predator, Back to the Future, Doctor Who, Flash Gordon, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Knight Rider and Star Wars.

Rawtenstall Station featured the Ghost Busters theme, with attractions including Ecto-Fun, a 35ft "Stay Puft Man", face painting, a Buffer Stops bar serving cask ales and ciders and a retro DJ playing classic sci-fi tracks.

Ramsbottom played host to a Jurassic Park theme, with entertainment including Jurassic Park gates, a Jurassic Park explorer, a 14ft T-Rex and a baby T-Rex.

Other events were held at Bury Transport Museum and Bolton Street Station in Bury.

An event spokesman said: "Everyone had a great time at Sci Fi on the Sidings."
