A MOTORIST has been left with a fractured skull after confronting someone trying to break into his van in the Ramsbottom area.

Police say a 58-year-old driver confronted a man breaking into the vehicle on Lumb Carr Road, Holcombe Brook, just after 8.30am.

He is said to have chased the would-be thief along the road but was then struck by a car, being used as part of the getaway.

The victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness while the car sped away.
He was taken to hospital and is now recovering at home.

Det Con Donna Haldane said: "We are asking for any witnesses that may have seen this collision, or who were in the area shortly before it happened and may have information that could assist our investigation, to please get in touch."
