A WOMAN and her nine-year-old grandson managed to escape a severe fire at their home in Southview, Haslingden last night.
The fire, which destroyed a bedroom and smokelogged the rest of the terraced property, started at about 6.20pm.
Crew Manager Glenn Barrett from Rawtenstall Fire Station said: "When we arrived we could see black smoke billowing out of the bedroom windows.
"The woman and her grandson were out by the time we arrived and pretty shaken up.
"The front bedroom is completely destroyed."
The two neighbouring properties were checked for fire and declared safe.
