Haslingden troubled teenager given another chance

A TEENAGER who put his freedom at risk for booting a pub door off its hinges, was given another chance.

Burnley Crown Court was told how Sam Kelly, 19, was on a suspended jail term for aggravated burglary at a shop, when he caused trouble at a Haslingden pub.

Kelly, of Lower Lane, Haslingden, had admitted damage on March 18, and had been committed for sentence by magistrates.

The court was told the landlady of The Roebuck refused to serve Kelly, as he was clearly drunk. He was told to leave and she locked up.

Shortly afterwards, he was seen climbing over a back fence of the pub. He was so drunk he fell off.

At about 11.30pm, the landlady heard two loud bangs and found a door had been kicked off its hinges. She saw Kelly running away.

He was caught and police were called.

Judge Jonathan Gibson also ordered the defendant to pay £615 compensation, with £100 costs.

He said: “You seem to be trying to put things behind you. Now do it.”
