TWO men have been charged and a third remains under arrest in hospital after being shot by police in Haslingden.

TWO men have been charged and a third remains under arrest in hospital after being shot by police in Haslingden.

Firearms officers from Greater Manchester Police's Serious and Organised Crime Group investigating armed robbery offences swooped on a group in the car park of the Co-op store in John Street on Friday night.

During the operation contact was made with the suspects and GMP officers fired a number of shots.

A 29-year-old man from Salford was taken to Burnley General Hospital suffering from gun shot wounds, before being transferred to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

He remains in a serious but stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

He is under arrest at the hospital.

Two other men appeared at Manchester City Magistrates' Court today.

Richard Anthony Walsh, 25, of Millview Court, Oldham, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of a loaded firearm in a public place.

Jonathon Walsh, 21, of Dob Brook Close, Manchester, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of a loaded firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm when prohibited.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed and is carrying out an independent investigation.
