PEOPLE driving between Rossendale and Blackburn face another three weeks of rush-hour traffic chaos because of works on the Grane Road.

Emergency repairs to a high retaining wall near Heap Clough have led to more than 100 metres of single-file traffic controlled by temporary lights.

The work is expected to take another three weeks to complete.

Traffic has been backing up in both directions at rush hour as the lights are in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The B6232 is a key artery between the M66 to Manchester, the A56 and Haslingden to Guide and Blackburn and Darwen which is heavily used by morning and evening commuters

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We’re making good progress with the emergency repairs to the retaining wall, and have now completed the concrete work.

“This has involved constructing a concrete footing and casting the new retaining wall.

“The final phase which we’ve now started involves facing the wall in stone. This should take no longer than another three weeks as long as we’re not delayed by bad weather.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience to people’s journeys.”
