A MAN was sprayed with a substance thought to be pepper spray after disturbing four men who were breaking into a garage.

Police said the gang were spotted acting suspiciously at a domestic garage on a rear back street of Manchester Road, in Haslingden, near to its junction with Princess Street.

The incident happened sometime between 6pm and 6.30pm on Friday.

The four men were all described as white, aged between 20 and 30-years-old.

The victim said he had seen the men trying to gain access to a garage before he was sprayed in the face. The gang then ran away from the scene.

DC 4191 Shaun Hanna of Burnley CID said: “An investigation to identify the men responsible is underway and I would urge anyone who has any information to come forward and contact us.

“We believe those responsible may have been knocking on doors in the area offering maintenance work, predominantly roof repairs, and I would urge the public not to approach these men if seen but to contact the police.”
