CONCERNS have been raised about the behaviour of residents at a rehabilitation centre.

Police said that they have contacted bosses at Edenfield’s Chatterton Hey House after worries over people staying at the registered drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.

Residents said they felt unable to walk alone in Exchange Street after witnessing ‘strange’ and intimi-dating behaviour at the controversial centre.

Coun Darryl Smith said: “These incidents are quite worrying. We are expecting to hear back from the Langley House Trust, which runs the centre, with an explanation.

“These incidents are seemingly low risk but LHT are already going back on what it promised the Eden-field community.

“They are supposed to be monitoring these people, they are destroying the trust this community has built with the centre over the years.”

Resident Matt Mead said: “Even local taxi firms have started refusing to pick up from Chatterton Hey. Inc-idents like this are terrible for our community.”

The hostel hit the headlines earlier this year after hostel bosses proposed to introduce sex offenders and paedophiles into the centre.

Overwhelming public objection forced the hostel bosses to reconsider paed-ophile residents but they still want to house other sex offenders.

DI Derry Crawton, of the Public Protection Unit said: “I have been made aware of concerns within the community but these are not a police matter or cause for a police investigation.

“I have been in contact with Chatterton Hey House and passed on the comments and they will manage the concerns appropriately.”

Langley House Trust was unavailable for comment.
