A WOMAN arrested on suspicion of concealing a birth as part of the investigation into a baby thought to have been abandoned in Edenfield has been released on bail.

Police said the 28-year-old, from Whitefield, near Bury, was released pending further inquiries last night after she was tracked down on Wednesday.

Officers scoured the Rochdale Road area, near Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary and the Owd Betts pub, after a woman rang a helpline and told them she had given birth and left the baby in a field.

The initial call was made at around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

Sniffer dogs and Rossendale and Pendle mountain rescue team joined police in the hunt for the baby, who has still not been found.
