SCHOOLS are being warned to be vigilant after thieves tampered with the alarm system at a school in Rossendale, broke in without being detected, and snatched £800.

The burglars are believed to have entered Edenfield Primary School in the daytime on Tuesday and damaged the alarm.

Julia McNamara, school bursar, said the cash was for dinner money and day trips.

She said: “It’s very sad that criminals target schools when we have such low budgets anyway.”
