A VILLAGE church and cricket club have been the target of young vandals in a late-night wrecking spree.
Youths are believed to be behind an attack on the 131-year-old Edenfield Methodist Church, in Rochdale Road, on Monday night.
Mud, packed with stones, smashed four windows at the church, forcing a clean-up operation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
John Illesley, the church’s superintendent minister, said: “It is a very old building which is well-used by the community and it’s disappointing when this kind of thing happens.”
Coun Anne Cheetham said: “I would ask whether parents really know what their children are getting up to. This is very annoying.”
The same gang is also thought to have broken into Edenfield Cricket Club later and moved sight-screens around.
