PLANS to turn a derelict building in Crawshawbooth into a new takeaway and restaurant have been refused.
Applicant Arif Hussain wanted to develop the Burnley Road venue, which was a restaurant up until 2005. But no parking was provided in the plans.
Local architect Peter Roberts, who spoke against the plans at Rossendale develop-ment control meeting, said a petition of 100 names had been collected against a previous application for the site and they should be taken into consideration.
He said: "The proposal is in a predominantly residential area and neighbours will be severely affected.
"In terms of takeaways, we already have two Indians and a Chinese. We do not need any more. I doubt anyone will ever dine there.
"This part of Burnley Road is congested with cars. People often park across my driveway."
Planning consultant Stephen Hartley said: "Youths do congregate somewhat, but limited opening hours will control any problems."
