A FOUR car crash closed the road through Crawshawbooth this afternoon.

Roads blocks were put in place and motorists were diverted following the accident near to St John's Church, on the A682 Burnley Road, at around 12.30pm.

The four cars involved were a white Rover, silver Chevrolet, black Peugeot and a green vauxhall.

The driver of one of the vehicles suffered minor injuries and was transferred to the Royal Blackburn Hospital in an ambulance.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "Traffic between Burnley and Rawtenstall was initially being held at the scene by police but one side of the road was re-opened around 30 minutes after the incident so that traffic in both directions could take turns to get past."

Council grit workers were also called to the scene due to fuel spillage on the road.
