Suspended sentence for drunken Rossendale mugger

A DRUNKEN teenager who mugged a man at a Rawtenstall cash point has walked free from court.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Jack Sparks, 18, punched victim Jonathan Cain, 23, as he was putting his card into the machine on a Friday night.

He then tried to take the card or get money by pressing the buttons on the machine.

Sparks, who had 10 previous convictions, said his actions had been an ‘alcohol-fuelled moment of madness’.

He had written a letter to his victim expressing his remorse and stating that he had never regretted anything as much as what he had done that night.

The defendant, of Hill Street, Crawshawbooth, admitted robbery, last August.

He was given six months in a young offenders' institution, suspended for 18 months, with 12 months supervision.

For Sparks, Jonathan Dickinson said the offence was out of character.

'Out of character' -- yeah like the past ten occasions he had been up in front of the beak
The guy he robbed must have been thrilled to get a letter off him - an absolute joke

'Out of Character'? What were the previous 10 convictions for, then?

Soft on crime, yet again.

What a sham! Write a letter expressing remorse or should I say have your solicitor write it for you and stick your mark at the end and voila you get away with it. This individual is obviously a menace with 10 previous convictions under his belt so why the hell wasn't he banged away for a stretch. This offal is laughing at us all!

He hasn't "walked free" he has "walked out of".
.
He has a suspended custodial sentence, which given his track record, will probably be activated at some stage in the next 12 months!

Was this Beverley Lunt again?

How is it that LT readers can notice that "out of character" doesn't fit the profile of someone with 10 previous convictions, yet a judge can't?

Yet again amoral solicitors and couldn't care less judges swallow any old flannel from a habitual criminal and put them back on the streets. The police must wonder why they bother catching scum for the legal system to let them out (after they've collected their fees of course!)

we need more prisons. and bugger the human rights rubbish and the playstations, gyms and all the other stuff than honest folk can only dream of. holding facilities with food and water provided, let's actually have a deterrant for a change!!

then the judges can give sentences that they can be proud of!

Another news story on the LT concerns the £1.4m it will cost to have an election for the Lancashire Police Commissioner.

It's not senior police officers the public should be allowed to elect in and out of office, but judges.

The police deliver a much more satisfactory service to the public than the judiciary does.
