Service looking for more cash for young

LANCASHIRE Young People's Service is trying to look for more resources for Bacup.

Operations manager Lily Rushton, said the town was not as bad as people made out and that young people who live there were shocked by Sophie Lancaster's tragic murder.

The Young People's Service works with young people to support them through adolescence and difficulties they may be having.

"We get to know them and build a relationship with them, " she said.

"In Bacup we provide a youth club - KG's is open three nights a week.

"We have young people attending who are interested in music and we have run an arts project in the library. We also take them on weekend residentials.

"We're also involved with the summer programme at Bacup Leisure Hall, which is widely used by young people.

"During the daytime we have an information centre opening in Bacup called What Now which offers advice for young people and help with personal issues.

"Rossendale also has a youth council which gives kids the chance to have their say.

"We are always looking for more resources for young people here."

BYTES is the youth group for children up to 19 years of age, which is based at the Royal Court Theatre and is popular in the town.

Sophie was murdered in Stubbylee Park last August after being attacked for looking like a goth. Her teenage killers were this week jailed for life.
