Two men arrested on suspicion of raping woman in Bacup

TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in Rossendale.

The pair, aged 24 and 25, both from Bacup were interviewed yesterday in connection with an incident early on Sunday morning. Both men have been bailed until August 20.

A 32-year-old the woman was allegedly attacked off Old Lane, in Britannia, near Bacup.

Detectives are still keen to trace a taxi driver who collected the woman, and three other men from Vogue nightclub in Rawtenstall.

One of the men left the taxi at an address in Bacup before the car headed towards Shawforth and dropped off the remaining passengers at the junction of Market Street and Rochdale Road.

Police said the alleged incident is believed to have taken place between 3.30am and 5.20am.

Officers will be outside the nightclub this weekend to appeal for help from possible witnesses.
