Bacup residents asked for £50k legacy ideas

BACUP residents are being asked to come up with ideas on how to create a lasting legacy for the town with £50,000.

When Bacup Leisure Hall was sold, it was agreed that the proceeds from the sale would be reinvested into the town.

Following consultation at the end of 2010 by Bacup Neighbourhood Forum, it was agreed that £100,000 of the funding would be used to create a Vocational Training Centre at Stubbylee.

Now the council is appealing for ideas from the public on how to spend the remaining £50,000.

Alison Wilkins, Locality Manager at Rossendale Council said: “Ideas for how the money should be spent are welcome from anyone, individuals or organisations in the Bacup area.

“This is a great opportunity for people to put in their suggestions for how the money from the Leisure Hall could be spent.”

All ideas must be submitted before April 30 by calling the number 01706 252593.

Why isn't it going towards the wonderful 'Bacup Vision' which we were all asked to comment on a few months ago?

Would it be possible to purchase a bomb which would flatten it for that price

Reopen the Police Station as 'The Juliet Bravo Experience'. This could display exhibits from the famous BBC series filmed in Bacup from 1980 to 1985.

Items on display could include Inspector Jean Darblay's leather glove as shown in the opening sequence or the kettle used by Sgt Joseph Beck in most episodes often accompanied by the famous phrase 'Fancy a cuppa tea, Ma'am'.

If enough Juliet Bravo exhibits could not be found then perhaps it could be widened to other detective series set in Lancashire and have items such as Hetty Wainthropp's crochet a hat

It could be spent on a commemorative statue to celebrate Bacup having been twinned with incest for 500 years.
