Bacup teenager stole car and drove at 70mph in 30 zone

A TEENAGER stole a car and drove 40mph over the speed limit, as police were in pursuit, a court heard.

Blackburn magistrates were told Christopher Melody, of Blackwood Mews, Bacup, stole the car on Friday.

He drove through a red light in Todmorden Road, Burnley, and continued towards Rawtenstall, via Manchester Road, Dunnockshaw, the court heard.

Melody was said to have driven at speeds of 70mph in 30mph zones.

He is charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving and will appear at Burnley today to be sentenced.
