A MAN accused of murdering Gary Roscoe in Bacup has been released on bail.

The body of 31-year-old Mr Roscoe was found by paramedics in a stream off Deansgreave Road, Bacup, at 10.15am on Tuesday.

The discovery led police to launch a murder inquiry and as a 32-year-old man from Haslingden was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has now been released on bail until February 27 and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances which led to Mr Roscoe's death.

A post mortem to establish the cause of Mr Roscoe's death was held on Wednesday morning and revealed he had suffered head injuries.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area.

The family of Mr Roscoe, who lived in Bacup, have been informed of his death.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and have urged anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Det Supt Neil Ashton said: “These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with Mr Roscoe’s family and friends at this time.

“They are currently being supported by specially trained officers.

“Our enquiries are on-going and while we have made an arrest, I would continue to appeal to anyone who may have information which could assist officers to call us.”

A police spokesman added: "We were called around 10.15am on Tuesday (January 30) by the ambulance service following reports a body had been found in a stream off Deansgrave Road, Bacup.

"Officers attended and the body of a 31-year-old man was found at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as suspicious.

"Following investigation, a 32-year-old man from Haslingden has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody."
