FIREFIGHTERS have given a warning over the dangers of using chip pans after a fire at a house.
The incident happened in Rochdale Road in Bacup at around 2.20am.
The resident of the house was heating up a chip pan when she became distracted, the fire service said.
The smoke alarm then went off and raised the alarm and allowed her to escape before any fire developed.
A fire service spokesman said: "The flat was heavily smoke logged.
"We would urge people not to cook chips using hot oil pans.
"Distraction is the main cause of chip pan fires.
"Whilst cooking, don’t leave pans unattended."
Two fire crews attended for approximately 30 minutes and nobody was injured.
