A MAN has appeared in court and denied a charge of murder.

Jonathan Michael Wrigley appeared at Preston Crown Court over video link from Garth Prison yesterday and pleaded not guilty to murdering James Mulcahey.

Wrigley is charged with the murder of Mr Mulcahey who was stabbed outside a takeaway in Bacup.

Mr Mulcahey was stabbed during an incident outside Tony’s Takeaway in Yorkshire Street on November 22, 2014.

He suffered a cardiac arrest in hospital which resulted in brain damage.

He remained in Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital until he died on December 5, 2015.

That was 12 months and 13 days after he was stabbed.

Wrigley pleaded not guilty to wounding Mr Mulcahy but was convicted of that offence in July 2015.

Wrigley, who spoke only to confirm his name and enter his plea at the hearing yesterday, was remanded in custody to stand trial at the crown court on March 27.

The trial is expected to last between five and seven days.
